Premier League Poll Crowns Fernando Torres Most Popular Player

Cristiano Ronaldo may have recently lifted the Ballon d'Or, which officially crowned him European Footballer of the Year, but Fernando Torres is more popular, according to the the
Barclays 2008 Global Fan Report, at least.
The survey was taken by 32,000 fans from 185 countries, according to the Premier League's official website. They voted 'El Nino' their top dog, with 34% of the responses, followed not by Ronaldo, who was third behind Liverpool talisman Steven Gerrard.
Meanwhile, Arsenal legend Thierry Henry was chosen as the favourite player in the history of the league.
The survey also highlighted that the Premier League is holding the fans' interest more than the other elite European competitions - Italy's Serie A and the Spanish Primera División.
Goal.com Polls, of course, allow the fans to have their say on football matters regularly. Recently,
Goal.com readers didn't fancy Reds ace Torres for the Golden Ball; he lagged far behind surprising winner Gianluigi Buffon and second-placed Ronaldo, the real life winner.
Furthermore, Goal.com readers were split on their favourite 'big three' league. Serie A was the most popular league by the narrowest of margins, picking up 35.64%.
La Liga in Spain was the runner-up, with 34.65%, while the Premier League brought up the rear with 29.70%.
